L!VE Café & SUA has teamed up to host a FREE screening of "America to Me," a documentary that "takes a look at one of Chicago's most progressive and diverse public schools, while exploring America's charged state of race, culture, and education today," (IMDb). Join us to experience a communal viewing of the film by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Steve James ("Hoop Dreams") at L!VE. Gather at 7:30p to purchase refreshments prior to the start of the screening; opening spoken word piece by OPRFHS Spoken Word Team Member, screening at 8p, followed by a panel discussion. Registration required; limited seating available.
Additionally, there will be 5 subsequent convenings on Mondays, 9/10 (panel on Education & Equity), 9/24 (community conversation), TUESDAY 10/9 (panel Education and the Social Emotional) DUE TO THE HOLIDAY, 10/22 (community conversation), and commencing on 11/5 (culminating panel on Education & The Future: Moving Forward). Registration for all subsequent gatherings will open up on the evening of the preceding gathering, and seats are limited to 75. All subsequent gatherings will be to address the 2 previous episodes of the documentary, though we will NOT be showing the episodes of the convening. As such, participants of all subsequent Monday gatherings should come to those convenings having already viewed the 2 previous episodes of the show. Each of the Monday convenings will consist of either a thematic panel discussion (see the parentheses above) or a community conversation.
To register for these events, you will need to do so within the 2 week timeframe preceding each of the events. Participants will only be allowed to register for one gathering at a time in order to create equitable access to all panels and community conversations. If for some reason you register for any of the experiences and realize that you are in fact unable to attend, please, go back in to the site and rescind your seats so that others may have an opportunity to participate.
